Whats Eating Your Roof?

Did you know, your roof is not dirty at all, it’s infested. Infested by tiny microorganisms that are dining on your roof like an all you can eat buffet. These algae, molds, mildews and bacteria are actually decomposing the surfaces they are growing on. Nature uses these tiny microorganisms to break down larger objects into smaller items eventually becoming part of the soil. This is called decomposition. Your roof and other surfaces around your property are being attacked and decomposed right before your very eyes.

As the roots for these tiny organic plan materials extend and wrap around the granules of the shingles, the granules separate from the asphalt. Once the granules are separated from the asphalt, and the tar backing is exposed, the Florida sun’s harsh UV rays very quickly dry out and crack that layer of the shingle. Causing even more granule loss, and the shingles begin to curl and become brittle. Once that asphalt portion has cracked, the shingles lose their waterproofing abilities, and all that’s below that is a fiberglass backing that offers no protection from keeping those outside elements from making their way to the roof paper underlayment, or the non-treated wood that is the last defense to the attic of your home.

The Process

We first pre-treat the plants around your roof's drip line. We will soak them down with water, filling the roots. (The plants around your home or business are not smart. And they do not discriminate. They will soak any liquid that comes in contact with them if they’re thirsty. So, we fill those roots with water, like going to a buffet! They drink all the water up, and won’t have any room for anything else)

We will spray the entire shingle roof area with our cleaning foam under low pressure.
(The benefit of the sticky surfactant we use, allows all of our cleaning foam to stay perfectly on the roof, and not drip off. Our adjustable hand-held nozzle allows us to apply it precisely to only the area we want the foaming solution to go. No overspray, and no run off)

Once the cleaning foam is applied to the shingle roof, usually 90% or more of the organic plant life is killed and “vaporized”  on contact. (On shingle roofs with a lot of plant life, it may take a full 24 hours to get 100% removal. Usually, in those heavily soiled roof situations, the roof will be spotless by the next morning. We will finally “post-treat” the surrounding plant life one last time to go above and beyond to be certain)

The Chemicals

We use a specific chemical cleaning solution, as per the guidelines of all major roofing manufacturers, that is blended through our metering valve system. We can custom-tailor each mixture to deliver the correct strength cleaning solution for your shingle roof! The roof cleaning chemical is diluted with water and blended with a surfactant to help the roof foam stick to the roof, rather than run off into your gutters, through your downspouts, or running off your roof’s drip line, killing your landscaping below.

All of our chemicals are completely biodegradable and VOC compliant in all 50 states(even California, and they don’t approve anything)!

The Equipment

We use a safe, non-pressure, soft-wash roof cleaning method that ensures damage-free results. This foaming system is powered by an air compressor. Light puffs of air move through a small 3/8” hose that runs through a series of adjustable metering valves connected to a water tank, a chemical tank, and a surfactant tank.
Through a small, sophisticated pneumatic pump, those perfectly mixed chemicals are then siphoned through a larger ½” hose (reducing the pressure even more)
At the end of the hose, is a hand-held adjustable fan tip nozzle that applies these custom mixed roof cleaning chemicals, that are specifically tailored for each individual shingle roof.
After the chemicals leave the nozzle, the roof cleaning chemicals contact the roof at such a low pressure, that it isn’t even half of the force of our typical light Florida afternoon rain showers. Leaving you with a completely damage-free solution to SAVE YOUR ROOF from organic decomposition, PRESERVING and EXTENDING the life of your shingle roof!

The Warranty

We make the warranty very simple and easy to understand. No caveats. No fine print. No hidden nonsense. When we clean a shingle roof, we give our customers a 2-year “Spot Free” warranty.
What does that mean for our customers?
If you have any of those ugly black streaks return to your shingle roof within 2 years after “Spray Date”, give our office a call, and we will come back out to re-treat your roof! Easy & simple. No fuss, no hoops to jump through.
